ARLINGTON, Va., June 8, 2010 – The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research and Genentech, Inc.  honored Michael Catanio, Director of Trade Relations at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc.,  with the Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Healthcare Distribution Management Association’s 2010 Business & Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. The Nexus award, the healthcare distribution industry’s highest honor, recognizes leadership, exemplary service and professional excellence in the healthcare industry and in the community.

“Mike lives up to the very meaning of the word ‘Nexus.’ Few in the industry are as skillful as he at forging connections with industry colleagues and trading partners across the supply chain,” said John M. Gray, HDMA President and CEO. “People at all levels of the pharmaceutical industry respect his depth of knowledge and admire his generosity of time and spirit.”

Mr. Catanio’s career includes experience on the manufacturing and distribution sides of the industry. In addition to his current position at Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Catanio has worked in trade relations for Berlex Laboratories, Inc. and Bergen Brunswig Corporation. Throughout his career, he has developed innovative ways to bring together diverse groups of supply chain participants. These include the establishment of an Advisory Board of supply chain executives, the development of an event aimed specifically at bringing together regional healthcare distributors, and the pioneering of a program to educate pharmacy students about the healthcare supply chain.

“The Center and Genentech, Inc. are proud to recognize Mr. Catanio’s career achievements,” said Karen Ribler, Executive Vice President and COO, Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research. “His career accomplishments and innovative solutions embody the principles of industry and community leadership. His achievements are resonant with those of the past winners whose dedication and service define the tradition and prestige signified by the Nexus award.”
